Walking about a beautiful small city, and back to Tokyo
Kanazawa was this historical capitol of a wealthy region. It is restoring and valuing its past, and is starting to attract visitors as it is now on a route serviced by the high speed trains. It is fun to walk about the special districts, and eat in old neighborhood restaurants. We also shop for gifts for friends at home. I took the train back to Tokyo, and wrested my three bags through rush hour traffic to his neighborhood and my hotel. They remember me from my visit two weeks ago, and give me a sock I left behind in a clear clean plastic bag. I came back down and gave the front desk people a spice mix for guacamole from Santa Fe. My daughter Liz suggested this as small gifts to give out as I travelled, and everyone has appreciated it. We had dinner with Kojiro and his wife, Fumiko, and their 13 year old grandson, who is very good at ping pong. I gave him a folding Leatherman knife from the USA.
